This was a one-night stand for a travelling Company on its way from Scotland to Taunton. Generally the show will run for several nights in the larger towns throughout the UK. and The Reduced Shakespeare Company is concurrently staging a production of its own The Complete Works Of Shakespeare in London.

We mention to the lads that The Bible and Shakespeare are two pretty weighty tomes and that they might have set themselves a hard act to follow. The guys admit that although The Reduced Shakespeare Company was established around twenty years ago, it has only just found its next big idea.
Having abandoned thoughts of a production of The Phone Book ("it gets kind of boring in the middle"), The Company has come up with The Reducers, the history of Literature. It is anticipated the show will be touring next year and so become the third Reduced Shakespeare Company production in performance.

The cast was keen to point out that as well as in London, there are current productions in America too. In fact, pretty much all around the world, there are productions in the name of The Reduced Shakespeare Company, and their web site, as the lads put it, "takes global hits!"

This global renown was brought home to us later that weekend.

Norm’s son lives in South Korea, and in his weekly phone call to ask how Wanderers have gone on (lost again, they always do on Saturdays) he mentioned he would be going to the Seoul University Theatre next week,… to see The Reduced Shakespeare Company reducing Shakespeare, and no doubt another audience, to helpless laughter.

Darwen Library Theatre really does bring us world famous shows, doesn’t it?
Next up on these pages will be an interview with The Fivepenny Piece one of England’s most loved comedy folk groups, who appear at Darwen Library Theatre on Saturday 30th November at 7.30.
